Application & Construction
Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island Media Zone Megaproject
AAC Blocks being used as void filler
Loading...Exeed Litecrete AAC blocks are stacked up to the desired elevation, covered with a polythene sheet (concrete vapor barrier), steel mesh reinforcement is then laid on top of the polythene sheet and concrete poured to form a load distributing reinforced concrete slab.
Speaking to AAC Worldwide, Faris Alwan, Operations Manager of Exeed Litecrete said: “This is the first application of it’s kind in the United Arab Emirates and we are extremely proud that the unparalleled quality of our products and the unique solution driven offerings our team promotes led to Exeed being chosen as the AAC materials supplier on another of Abu Dhabi’s megaprojects that will be a leading, regional creative hub and destination that is set to attract 10,000 working professionals, international media companies, content providers and technologies.”
Due to its superior thermal mass, Exeed Litecrete’s AAC products are an extraordinary insulating material that play an important role in constructing sustainable, energy efficient ‘Green Buildings’ and as when used in wall construction, our materials also make for the ultimate below-grade building insulation/void filler delivering a lightweight, high performance, fire rated, chemically inert, versatile, cost effective & speedy solution. It also reduces the overall amount of concrete or other heavy fills, requires smaller working spaces, and uses significantly less equipment.
Faris went on to say: “Exeed Litecrete is pioneering innovation and remains at the forefront of the AAC materials industry in the UAE, educating the market on the outstanding qualities and benefits of AAC as a superior green building material. As a result of these ongoing efforts we now see AAC blocks being used as a void filler for the first time in the UAE and on such a high profile and important project which clearly demonstrates AAC technology is becoming the most trusted building material, preferred by Engineers, Contractors and Architects, and that Exeed Litecrete is the trusted go to manufacturer of first choice.”
In Abu Dhabi there is a mandatory program called ‘Estidama’, which is a building design methodology for constructing and operating buildings and communities more sustainably. The program is a key aspect of the "Abu Dhabi Vision 2030" drive to build the Abu Dhabi Emirate according to innovative green standards. Estidama is the Arabic word for sustainability. Within Estidama, is a green building rating system called the Pearl Rating System that is utilized to evaluate sustainable building development practices in Abu Dhabi. All buildings must achieve a minimum 1 Pearl Rating, and all government-funded buildings must achieve a minimum 2 Pearl Rating.
The Pearl Rating System consists of 7 components:
Integrated Development Process: Encouraging cross-disciplinary teamwork to deliver environmental and quality management throughout the life of the project.
Natural Systems: Conserving, preserving and restoring the region’s critical natural environments and habitats.
Livable Buildings: Improving the quality and connectivity of outdoor and indoor spaces.
Precious Water: Reducing water demand and encouraging efficient distribution and alternative water sources.
Resourceful Energy: Targeting energy conservation through passive design measures, reduced demand, energy efficiency and renewable sources.
Stewarding Materials: Ensuring consideration of the ‘whole-of-life’ cycle when selecting and specifying materials.
Innovating Practice: encouraging innovation in building design and construction to facilitate market and industry transformation
As a ‘Green Building’ material, Exeed Litecrete’s AAC products offer highly desirable performance characteristics throughout all of its life stages related to environmentally responsible manufacturing, transportation, sustainability and wastage, therefore performing exceptionally well within the Estidama framework.
