Exchange and understanding build the foundation

At the beginning of his tenure, Thomas Hurnaus focused primarily on intensive exchanges with different areas of the company. In addition to discussions within T&F, he actively sought dialogue with the production plants as well as with the procurement, product management, sales, and innovation management departments. The objective was to understand the existing modi operandi, identify successful approaches, and uncover opportunities for improvement.

One of the key insights from this phase was the extensive specialist knowledge and many years of experience that exist both within the individual sections and directly at the various Xella production sites. According to Hurnaus, stronger networking of this know-how offers an opportunity to make successful solutions more widely accessible and to make better use of synergies.

Maintaining proven strengths and expanding collaboration

T&F already holds a strong position in the fields of fundamental research and quality assurance. These competencies will continue to form an important foundation of its work. At the same time, collaboration with the industrial, business, and procurement divisions is being expanded in order to implement projects and development initiatives more efficiently and with greater impact for Xella.

A particular focus is being placed on strengthening shared responsibility across departmental boundaries. Together with the industrial division, group-wide projects have been launched that are aimed at the further development of autoclaved aerated concrete and calcium silicate products with regard to sustainability and cost optimisation. These projects are being managed across divisions by project managers from both T&F and Industrial.

In parallel, T&F is working together with the business units to identify product and system developments that are of strategic relevance to Xella. To support this collaboration, internal structures within T&F are also being further developed.
