Delta Building Systems as trendsetter with a vision for the future

The Rise of AAC Across Egypt and Beyond

Loading...

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete has emerged as a vital material for sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective construction across the MENA region and beyond. At the center of this evolution stands Delta Building Systems (DBS), a leading Egyptian AAC producer and a pioneer in advancing the material’s adoption across multiple markets.

Founded in 1985, DBS has played a foundational role in the Egyptian AAC landscape, consistently delivering high-quality, locally manufactured blocks under the brand name “Delta Block.” With two production plants in operation and a third facility under development, DBS is now entering a new chapter – one defined by market expansion and regional leadership.

The Egyptian construction industry is projected to experience strong growth in 2025, reaching EGP 1.52 trillion, with a 7% annual growth rate. Autoclaved Aerated Concrete has emerged as a vital material for sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective construction across the MENA region and beyond.

The Future of AAC in Egypt: A Strategic Outlook

As Egypt advances its Vision 2030 agenda, focusing on sustainable growth, local industry expansion, infrastructure development and climate resilience, Delta Block is set to play a vital role.

Autoclaved aerated concrete offers outstanding value propositions including high thermal insulation, lightweight yet high compressive strength, fire resistance, earthquake resistance and yet its unique environmental attributes such as low embodied carbon, reduced operational energy demand, total product recycling and compatibility with green building code are increasingly important in today’s green construction market.

Delta Building System is actively working with industry bodies, academic institutions, and regulatory authorities to raise awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of AAC. The company is also the driving force and founding member of a national initiative to establish Egypt’s first AAC Industry Association, aimed at setting unified standards, enhancing product quality, and promoting research and innovation, and DBS is proud to be a founding member of the upcoming Egyptian AAC Industry Association, an initiative aimed at unifying industry efforts, enhancing standards, and driving innovation. The association brings together key AAC stakeholders and market leaders across Egypt who share a common vision for advancing lightweight construction, value engineering and setting national benchmarks for product quality, sustainability, and technical excellence.

Delta Block AAC is gaining momentum as the material of choice for developers and consultants seeking lightweight, thermally efficient, and environmentally responsible building solutions. With the launch of the third facility (in planning stage), Delta Building System’s annual output is expected to rise to 500,000 m³

Local Market Growth: Egypt's Shift Toward Sustainable Construction

Delta Block AAC is gaining momentum as the material of choice for developers and consultants seeking lightweight, thermally efficient, and environmentally responsible building solutions. Further reinforcing this growth is the adoption of a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) – verifying that Delta Block AAC materials in Egypt can offer transparent, lifecycle-based environmental solutions. This milestone supports consultants and developers working with green certification systems such as EDGE, LEED, and Tarsheed. Moreover, it reflects the company’s broader commitment to measurable sustainability aligned with the country’s Egypt Vision 2030.

Through the many years of DBS raising the awareness of autoclaved aerated concrete, Egypt has seen a steady increase in adoption of this construction material in both private and public sector projects, including social housing initiatives, mixed-use developments, and industrial zones. In recent years, ongoing awareness efforts, including large conferences and seminars, have contributed to what appears to be a tipping point, with AAC evolving from a niche alternative to a more mainstream walling solution in Egypt. Supporting this shift is Delta Building System’s ongoing investment in scaling its manufacturing base, its technical support, and its market education, making it a key partner for forward-looking construction practices.

Market Share Shift in Masonry Materials

Currently, traditional red clay bricks dominate the Egyptian walling market, holding approximately 80% of total usage, followed by concrete blocks at 16%, AAC at around 3%, and other solutions at 1%. However, this balance is expected to shift significantly over the next five years. By 2030, autoclaved aerated concrete is projected to capture 15–20% of the market share, reflecting a growing preference for sustainable and efficient materials.

AAC Production Volumes in Egypt

At present, the total annual AAC production volume in Egypt stands at approximately 250,000 m³, only from Delta Building Systems contribution through its two operating plants. With the launch of the third facility, DBS’s annual output is expected to rise to 500,000 m³, and the total national production capacity is projected to exceed 800,000 m³ within the next three years, marking a significant scale-up to meet increasing demand.

Regional Expansion: A Strategic Push Beyond Borders

As local demand surges Delta Building Systems, as a market leader, has turned its focus to broader regional opportunities in neighboring and strategic markets.

·      North Africa: Markets such as Libya are increasingly searching co-operation with AAC solution providers such as Delta Building System due to its strong support, proximity, manufacturing capacity and growing partnerships in these countries.

·      Jordan: With rising demand for energy-efficient housing and limited availability of traditional raw materials, Jordan is actively exploring sustainable walling systems.

·      Saudi Arabia: The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and mega-projects are accelerating the shift toward high-performance, green materials. AAC producers from Egypt are becoming a competitive supplier for both central and western regions of Saudi Arabia.

·      Other Export Markets: Delta Building System is leveraging EU-compliant quality standards and its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to explore supply agreements upon request.

Strengthening Infrastructure and Logistics

To support this cross-border growth, DBS has upgraded its logistics capabilities, expanded port access agreements, and optimized packaging and transport systems for long-distance delivery. The upcoming third production facility, equipped with advanced automation and larger capacity autoclaves, will further enhance the company’s ability to serve export markets without compromising domestic supply.

This regional strategy is backed by a dedicated export development team, tasked with market research, customer support, and compliance with destination country regulations.

Looking Ahead: the Vision for a Regional AAC Hub

Delta Building Systems aims to be a regional knowledge leader in AAC technology. The company is actively participating in joint research initiatives, seminars, and specification consultations across the region. It is also a founding member of a new effort to establish an AAC Association in Egypt, which seeks to set industry standards and unify voices in regulatory engagement.

With a clear roadmap for expansion, a deep commitment to sustainable development, and nearly 40 years of operational expertise, Delta Building Systems is well-positioned to become a regional hub for AAC excellence – bridging Africa, the Middle East, and southern Europe with reliable, efficient, and eco-conscious building materials.
