Turkey’s first AAC Producer is pioneering again

Çatalca Plant, the sixth Ytong plant in Turkey, was commissioned by Türk Ytong in August 2015 with an investment of 30 million Euros. In Çatalca, 85 employees deliver around 1,350 m³ of autoclaved aerated concrete per day.

Today, a total of six plants with a production capacity of up to 2.5 million m³ of Ytong and 50,000 m³ of Multipor operate in Turkey in a 25 percent partnership with the Xella Group. Türk Ytong is Turkey's leading and one of the world's leading AAC producers.

Turkey is located in one of the most active earthquake zones in the world, and 98 percent of the population of 83.6 million live in regions with high earthquake risk. Transformation and improving the building stock in the country as earthquake resistant and energy-efficient is an important agenda of the Turkish construction industry. Ytong products are an important building material of modern construction with their thermal insulation and incombustibility features and lightness. Multipor products are used in the thermal insulation of basement and car park ceilings and ETICS applications in multi-story buildings.

Sustainability

Türk Ytong has a pioneer position in Turkey's building material sector, with its sustainability studies as in many other fields. In 2011, Ytong became Turkey's first brand with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Supporting the spread of environmentally friendly green buildings in Turkey, Türk Ytong is among the founders of the ÇEDBİK - Turkish Green Buildings Council in Turkey.

To set an example for the spread of green buildings, Türk Ytong Sanayi A.Ş. built its new factories established in recent years with the concept of green building. The Çatalca Factory, which was put into service in 2015, became the world's first green building certified gas concrete factory. Dilovası Factory in Kocaeli, which started production in 2018, was built in Leed standards. Ytong's Management office in Istanbul is also LEED-certified.

Çatalca Ytong: Turkey’s only “hybrid plant”

Çatalca Plant, the sixth Ytong plant in Turkey, was commissioned by Türk Ytong in August 2015 with an investment of 30 million Euros. The plant is located in Çatalca, 55 km from Istanbul.

The plant is equipped with the latest technology and safety standards. Safety fences and machinery are supported by state-of-the-art automation, and employees receive regular training in occupational safety. In addition, the factory has a quality control laboratory with equipment and devices that meet international standards.

It is the first plant in Turkey to produce Ytong and Multipor at the same time. The equipment for casting and cutting as well as the autoclaves can be used in the production process of both products, making the use of both product lines as efficient as possible. Other robots include the unloading unit of Multipor, which is separately used, and robots and microwave ovens, which are used in the Multipor discharge line to increase efficiency and provide full automation.

In Çatalca, 85 employees deliver around 1,350 m³ of autoclaved aerated concrete per day.

World's first Green Building certificate for a Ytong plant

The plant is not only a positive example in terms of robotization but also in terms of sustainability: Thanks to its vapor recovery systems, gas consumption is kept very low (65 kWh/m³). Ytong breakage, which is unavoidable in the production process, is immediately reused in the production of new products. In mechanical systems and lighting, energy consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by using highly efficient equipment by international standards. The energy consumption of all types of systems such as heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting is monitored by energy analyzers and a smart building system. This makes it possible to constantly monitor the level at which energy efficiency targets are being met. All these features have made Çatalca the world's first Green Building certified Ytong plant and the first-ever factory building in Turkey to receive a certificate in this category. Ytong Çatalca Factory has Green Building Certificate at BREEAM GOOD level. (2016)

In mechanical and lighting systems, energy consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced with high-efficiency equipment according to international standards. Energy consumption of all kinds of systems such as heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting is observed by energy analyzers and building automation systems. With these improvements, it is possible to control at which level energy efficiency targets are met. Rainwater is collected to meet production and irrigation needs. Waste collection stations and main garbage collection areas were established at the points where users can easily reach the office and production areas for collecting and reusing recyclable waste.
